Alma Women's Basketball lost at Olivet College, 63-51, on Wednesday evening

Box Score

On Wednesday evening, the Alma College Women's Basketball team traveled to Olivet College for a MIAA contest and dropped a 63-51 decision to the Comets. The Scots are now 6-18 on the season and 4-11 in the MIAA, while the host Comets improved their record 7-17 (5-10 in the league) for the 2011-12 campaign.

As has been the case in other previous games this season, the Scots struggled out of the gate and amassed a deficit that they could not overcome in the long run. The Comets jumped out to a 13-0 lead at the 15:16 mark, and eventually increased the margin to 23 at 37-14 with 4:05 left in the first frame. Olivet entered halftime with a 44-23 advantage.

The Comes were steady in the second half and still held a lead of 17 with 14:07 remaining in the contest. However, Alma wouldn't quit and three times cut the deficit to 11, the last being at 55-44 when Sr. G Rachel Jaksa (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Sacred Heart) drained a three-pointer at the 9:36 mark.

However, this was to be Olivet's night as the Comets pushed back the Scots and got the lead back to 17 before walking off the court with the final 12-point margin of 63-51.

For the game, Fr. G Mallory Pruett (Ishpeming, Mich/Ishpeming) led the Scots with 18 points, including four three-pointers, and added seven rebounds. Jr. G Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) added 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while So. F Mary Schlicher (Lewiston, Mich./Johannesburg-Lewiston) finished with 10 points and seven boards in the loss.

The Scots conclude their 2011-12 season on Saturday afternoon when they host Trine University at Art Smith Arena for Pink Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
