The Alma College Women's Basketball team hosted MIAA foe Calvin College on Wednesday evening at Art Smith Arena and dropped a 97-56 decision to the Knights. With the loss, Alma is now 1-1 in the league and 1-4 overall this season, while Calvin improved to 6-1 and 2-0 in the MIAA in 2012-13.

The two teams were tied at 4-4 at the 15:55 mark after a low-scoring start. However, the Knights caught fire at that point and proceeded to go on a 26-2 run and held a 30-6 advantage with 9:12 remaining in half. Calvin was able to increase their lead to 33 points before the score settled at 46-16 at halftime.

Calvin shot 49%, including five three-pointers, to Alma's 20% in the first frame and outrebounded the Scots by a margin of 23-15. Part of the difficulty for the Scots was the fact they committed 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

The second half saw the Knights outscore the home team by a margin of 50-41 in an uneven 20 minutes that saw 25 fouls and 19 turnovers combined between the two teams. Calvin started quick to extend their lead and from that point, the two teams played even and the Knights walked off the court with the victory.

For the game, Calvin finished shooting 52% from the field, including eight of 15 from beyond the arc. Alma shot 30% (17 of 56) and three of 16 in three-pointers. Calvin outrebounded Alma 43-29 but the Scots finished the night with 11 steals.

Fr. G Kassidi Adams (Montrose, Mich./Montrose) and Fr. F Raeanna Zink (Birch Run, Mich./Frankenmuth) paced the Scots with 13 points a piece. Adams also added three assists and So. G Mallory Pruett (Ishpeming, Mich./Ishpeming) led the team with five rebounds.

Alma continues play on Saturday afternoon when they hit the road to take on MIAA opponent Saint Mary's. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
