The Alma College Wrestling team traveled down to warm and sunny southwest Florida this weekend and went 2-2 in the Ft. Myers Duals on Sunday afternoon. The Scots dropped the first match 24-12 to #19 Augustana before defeating Concordia (Wis.) 33-12 in round two. Then Alma lost to #15 Central College by a mark of 30-7 and finished the duals with a 29-15 victory over North Central College. The Scots are now 6-6 in duals on the season.
"We wrestled okay today but not great overall," remarked Scots Head Coach Todd Hibbs. "We have established that we can beat the teams that are not ranked but we are continuing to lose to teams that are ranked ahead of us. We need to take that next step and beat some of those teams to take the program to the next level. But, I believe we will get there."
Coach Hibbs did single out two wrestlers who continued outstanding seasons with an impressive afternoon. Jr. Matt Tuttle (Reading, Mich./Reading) went 4-0 on Sunday and is now 19-2 on the year, while Fr. Adam Robinson (Mason, Mich./Mason) also finished the day at 4-0 to improve to 19-6 for the season.
The Scots are now off until January 8, when they are scheduled to host Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) at Art Smith Arena. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
