Scots Wrestling hosted the Alma College Open Tournament on Saturday

On Saturday, the Alma College wrestling program hosted its first open tournament with teams from all over the state and mid west area coming to compete at Art Smith Arena.

Central Michigan University, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Heidelberg University, Lake Superior State, Mott Community College, and Muskegon Community College all participated in the tournament.

Several members of the men's wrestling program earned top places for their weight class in the open tournament. Fr. Collin Lesko (Tecumseh/Tecumseh) placed third for the Open 125 and Fr. Casimer Strzynski (Ludington/Ludington) placed third for the Open 133. Both Lesko and Strzynski won by major decision. Jr. Matthew Tuttle (Reading/Reading) won second place in the Open 165 weight class. In the Open 184, Fr. Jared Groeneveld (Allendale/Allendale) earned third place winning by decision.

The Scots totaled 10 pins for the day, second only to Central Michigan's 11. Fr. James Carey (Ithaca/Ithaca), Fr. Ethan Lindgren (Durand/Durand), and Groeneveld each pinned two opponents. Strzynski, Tuttle, Jr. Mason Ley (Millington/Caro), and Fr. John Julien Jr. (Hartland/Hartland) each pinned one.
