Box Score The Alma College Women's Basketball team continued league action on Wednesday night, when they traveled to Grand Rapids to take on #4 ranked Calvin College. The Scots dropped an 86-44 decision and are now 2-4 in the MIAA and 4-11 overall, while the Knights improved to 7-0 in the league and 14-0 for the 2011-12 season.
"We played a very good team tonight and I have to give credit where credit is due," said Alma Head Coach Keisha Brown. "But, I don't believe any team is 42 points better than us and we need to find a way to improve as we move forward."
Calvin jumped out to a 7-0 advantage and led by a margin of 22-9 at the 10:44 mark of the first half. The Knights kept the pressure on and was able to take a 47-30 advantage into halftime. The Scots shot 32% in the first 20 minutes, including three of 13 in three-pointers.
The second half did not prove to be any better for the visitors. After the teams basically traded baskets for the first part of the half, Calvin was able to extend their lead to 69-38 with 10:07 remaining. The Knights then closed out the game to walk off with the 86-44 victory.
Alma shot just 20% in the second half and finished the game at 27% (15 of 56), including three of 17 from beyond the arc. So. G Brittany Deerfield (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) led the Scots with 10 points, while Jr. G Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) paced the team with eight rebounds.
The Scots travel to Trine University on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. MIAA contest.
