Box Score The Alma College Women's Basketball team hit the road Saturday night to take on MIAA foe Hope College in Holland. Unfortunately, it was a tough evening for the visitors, as the Flying Dutch defeated the Scots by a margin of 86-50. The loss dropped the Scots to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the league, while Hope is now 8-1 and 4-0 in the MIAA for 2011-12.
Hope jumped on the Scots from the beginning of the game and the visitors could not overcome shooting woes. The Flying Dutch had an 11-point lead less than five minutes into the game and that proved fatal for the Scots. Hope took a 42-25 lead into halftime, as Alma shot just 30% from the field compared to the Flying Dutch's 54%.
Alma could not generate any traction in the second half unfortunately, as the home team was able to hold on to and increase their lead. The Scots shot just 24% in the final 20 minutes, squashing any chance of a comeback, as Hope was able to hold on to the lead and walk off the court with the win.
Fr. G Grace Wheeler (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) let Alma with 14 points on the evening and also had a team-high steals with four. Jr. G Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) added 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the loss to the Flying Dutch.
Next up for the Scots is a game at Elmhurst College (Ill.) on December 17, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
