Box Score The Alma Women's Basketball team played in the second day of the Northwood University tournament on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 70-38 decision to the host Timberwolves. The loss dropped the Scots to 0-3 on the 2011-12 season and they will next play on Wednesday, when they host Concordia University at Art Smith Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Another dismal day of shooting did the Scots in on Saturday, as they finished the game shooting just 26% for the game (14 of 55). In addition, they connected on just three of 13 from beyond the three-point line. The poor shooting resulted in the visitors falling behind 9-0 in the game's first three minutes.
The Timberwolves did not let up and at one point in the first half led by 22 points over the Scots. Alma did mount a bit of a rally, cutting the deficit to 33-18 after two free throws by Fr. F Morgan Henry (Wayland, Mich./Wayland Union) with 3:10 left in half. However, Northwood stopped the run and went into halftime with a 41-18 advantage.
The home team had control of game from there and with the Scots shooting just 24% from the field in the second half, were able to hold on to the lead and earn the victory.
The leading scorer for Alma was Fr. G Grace Wheeler (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) with seven points, while Jr. G Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) led the Scots with nine total rebounds and three steals in the loss.
