Scots Wrestling begins new era on Thursday night with an intrasquad scrimmage

On Thursday night in Art Smith Arena, a new era of Alma College wrestling began as Alma took on the Scots in a intrasquad scrimmage. The Scots, using a pin in the final match of the evening, defeated Alma by a score of 22-21 in a night that should be enjoyed by all Alma wrestling fans, both near and far.

"It was great to get out there and see what we had and of course you see weaknesses this early in the season," said Alma Head Coach Todd Hibbs. "But, we will work on those and to see such a big crowd watching a scrimmage that we did not even advertise is pretty special. A nice start and we can't wait to get back out there and keep working."

The team was divided evenly into two teams and the competition reflected it. Alma won six of the 11 matches, while the Scots won five - including two pins that gave them the margin of victory.

There were no losers on this special night, but the winners of the individual matches included - Tyler Foley, Collin Lesko, Zack Case, James Carey, John Julien Jr., Corey Peterman, Matt Tuttle, Fletcher Roberts (pin), Jared Groenveld, Derek Kopp and Brock Neeson (pin).

After a night that saw over 125 people witness the first Alma College wrestling on campus in 27 years, the Scots will begin play for good on November 5, when they take part in the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti. The competition begins at 9:00 a.m.
