Scots Women's Basketball falls at Albion, 66-54

Box Score

The Women's Basketball team took on Albion on Tuesday evening and came out on the wrong end of a 66-54 score in the MIAA tilt. The loss dropped the Scots to 0-7 in the league and 1-15 overall, while the Brits improved to 8-8 in 2010-11 and 6-1 in the MIAA.

"Again, we came out flat and allowed their best player to dictate the early action," said Scots Head Coach Keisha Brown. "We need to learn how to begin a game with the same intensity that we finish. Again, we did not quit and played very hard. We forced over 20 turnovers, but we need to shoot better as a team. We will go back to work to get ready for Olivet on Thursday and we will continue to be positive and find a way to be better."

The Brits led the entire game, as they took a quick advantage early, and headed into halftime with a 35-22 lead. The Scots cut the deficit to four points twice in the second half, the last being at 42-38, when Fr. G Anna Mattson (Brighton, MI/Brighton) hit two free throws at the 12:55 mark.

However, Albion went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take a commanding 52-38 lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Poor shooting haunted the Scots, as they finished at just 29.9% (20-67), including three of 14 from beyond the arc.

Mattson had career-highs with 25 points and nine rebounds in the loss for the Scots, while Fr. G Bailey Gooding (Gaylord, MI/Gaylord) had 11 points and two assists. Sr. F Sydney Beckwith (Weidman, MI/Beal City) had eight points and seven rebounds, and So. G Danielle Hicks (Marshall, MI/Marshall) finished with seven boards and five steals.

Alma next plays at Olivet College on Thursday evening in another MIAA contest in the second of three league games this week. The Scots will play at #1 Hope College on Saturday afternoon to complete the three-game road swing.
