Alma Women's Hoops on wrong end of a heartbreaking 51-48 decision at Adrian

Box Score

Alma's Women's Basketball team traveled to Adrian College on Wednesday evening in search of their first league win. However, the Scots came up short in a back and forth game, falling to the Bulldogs, 51-48. The loss dropped Alma to 0-5 in league play and 1-13 overall, while Adrian is now 2-4 in the MIAA and 5-8 in 2010-11.

"I know we did not win tonight, but I believe we had a breakthrough game in terms of putting two halves together," said Alma Head Coach Keisha Brown. "We are obviously focused on getting wins and we have had opportunities to do so this season. Good things happened tonight and the wins will come."

The game was a low scoring affair, as Adrian led 21-19 after a back and forth first half. The Bulldogs led most of the second half, but the Scots fought valiantly, and took a 48-43 lead on a lay-up by Sr. F Sydney Beckwith (Weidman, MI/Beal City) with 4:45 to go in the game.

However, Alma did not score the remainder of the game, and the host Bulldogs took advantage to come away with the 51-48 win. So. G Danielle Hicks (Marshall, MI/Marshall) led the Scots with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Beckwith finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds - a double-double.

The Scots host Calvin College on Saturday afternoon at Art Smith Arena, beginning at 3:00 p.m. A J.V. game will start at 1:00 p.m.
