Box Score The Alma Women's Basketball team lost 56-41 on Friday evening to Baldwin-Wallace College in the first game of the Hope College Tip-Off Classic in Holland. The Scots fell to 0-2 on the season and will next play Manchester College (IN) tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. to wrap-up the Classic.
It was a tough evening all around for the young Scots and a game that they will learn from moving forward. Alma had their only lead at 5-4, when Fr. G Bailey Gooding (Gaylord, MI/Gaylord) hit a three-pointer, assisted by Jr. G Rachel Jaksa (Mt. Pleasant, MI/Sacred Heart), three minutes into the game.
Baldwin-Wallace outscored the Scots 23-2 over the next 11 minutes, taking a 27-7 advantage with 6:24 left in the half. Alma went into halftime trailing 36-14 after shooting just 24% (6 of 25) from the floor, including one of eight from beyond the three-point line.
The second half was not much better for the Scots, as B-W scored the first eight points to take a decisive 42-14 lead with 16:36 remaining. However, the Scots fought hard all the way through the final 20 minutes and cut the lead to the eventual 15-point margin.
Sr. F Sydney Beckwith (Weidman, MI/Beal City) finished with a team-high 18 points and added six rebounds, while Gooding had a game-high eight rebounds, to go along with nine points for the Scots.
