Scots Women's Hoops drops 76-59 contest at Adrian College

Alma's Women's Basketball team traveled to Adrian College on Saturday looking for a season sweep of the Bulldogs and an end to a four-game losing streak. However, the home squad had different ideas, and at the end of day, the Scots came up on the wrong end of a 76-59 score.

Sr. F Kathryn Bigelow (Alma, MI/Alma) put the Scots ahead 3-0 just 42 seconds into the game. Alma eventually had a game-high six-point advantage at 18-12, when Sr. F Meagan Hoblet (Cadillac, MI/Cadillac) hit a jumper on an assist from Sr. G Lacey Best-Rowden (Lansing, MI/Waverly) at the 9:30 mark.

However, Adrian responded and was able to take a 30-26 lead into halftime. The hosts shot 35% in the first half (10 of 29), while the Scots were good on 36% (11 of 31).

As hard as the Scots tried, they could not dent the Adrian lead that swelled to 24 points at one time in the second half. The loss dropped Alma to 2-7 in the MIAA and 3-15 overall, while the Bulldogs are now 4-5 in the league and 8-9 in 2009-10.

The Scots' leading scorer on the afternoon was Jr. F Sydney Beckwith (Weidman, MI/Beal City), who had 18 points and also a team-high nine rebounds. Best-Rowden had nine points and club-best four assists, while So. G Rachel Jaksa (Mt. Pleasant, MI/Sacred Heart Academy) contributed eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

The Scots next play on Saturday, January 30, when they host Saint Mary's College. Tip-off at Cappaert Gymnasium is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
