Senior Forward Meagan Hoblet becomes just the 14th player in Alma College history to reach 1,000 career points for the Women's Basketball team

As the Alma College Women's Basketball team stepped on the court at Calvin College on Thursday evening, the Scots' program had seen 13 players reach the milestone of 1,000 career points.

During the game against the Knights, Sr. F Meagan Hoblet (Cadillac, MI/Cadillac) became the 14th Alma player to reach the mark. Hoblet reached 1,000 points when she hit a jumper at the 16:00 mark of the second half in a Alma 60-45 loss at #9 Calvin College.

"The milestone is something I will hold with me forever," said Hoblet. "I had a tough high school career, as I never started a game. I put in a lot of hard work to contribute to this program any way I could. I thank my coaches and I feel very privileged to be one of 14 players to achieve this mark. My focus moving forward is to win games and get us in a position to finish the season strong."

On Thursday, the #9 ranked Calvin squad led wire-to-wire and took a 36-22 advantage into halftime. Alma cut the Knights' lead to nine (38-29) when So. G Rachel Jaksa (Mt. Pleasant, MI/Sacred Heart) hit a three-pointer at 15:45 of the final frame. Alma could not get any closer and a talented Calvin squad closed out the game for the win.

Jr. F Sydney Beckwith (Weidman, MI/Beal City) led Alma with 13 points, while Hoblet was next with 10 points. Sr. F Kathryn Bigelow (Alma, MI/Alma) and Jaksa each had five rebounds for the visiting Scots.

Alma next plays on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Adrian College to take on the MIAA rival Bulldogs. Alma stands at 3-14 overall in 2009-10, and are 2-6 in the MIAA heading into the weekend.
