Scots Women's Hoops competed at Olivet College on Wednesday evening

Box Score

Alma's Women's Basketball team hit the road on Wednesday evening hoping to start a winning streak, after defeating Albion College at home on Saturday. However, Olivet had different plans, and defeated the visiting Scots by a score of 68-56. The loss dropped Alma to 2-3 in the MIAA and 3-11 overall, while the Comets are now 3-3 in league play and 4-11 in 2009-10.

The game was certainly a game of two halves. Alma trailed very early by a margin of 8-3, but took their first lead at 11-10 at the 13:39 mark, when Sr. G Lauren Hasler (Mt. Pleasant, MI/Sacred Heart) connected on a three-pointer. The Comets had a lead of 18-13 with 11:09 remaining, but the Scots finished the half on a 16-6 run, taking a 29-24 advantage into the break.

Olivet scored the first nine points of the second half and the visitors could not recover. The Comets led 33-29 with 16:19 remaining, but a jumper by So. C Aubrey Maxa (Saginaw, MI/Swan Valley) made it a two-point game. Unfortunately, that was the closest the Scots would get before ultimately falling to the Comets.

Alma fell behind by eight points less than two minutes later, and played catch-up from that point. However, Olivet was up to the task and never let the Scots back in the game, taking the final 12-point margin on a free throw with nine seconds remaining.

Sr. F Meagan Hoblet (Cadillac, MI/Cadillac) led Alma with 11 points and five rebounds, while Hasler was next with nine points. Sr. F Kathryn Bigelow (Alma, MI/Alma) had a team-high six assists and added eight points. Hasler led the squad with three assists, while Sr. G Lacey Best-Rowden (Lansing, MI/Waverly) had two helpers on the evening.

Alma will host MIAA rival Trine University on Saturday afternoon. Tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
