The 2008-09 Alma Women's Basketball team dropped the season-opener Wednesday night by the score of 77-50 at the hands of host Aquinas College. The Scots began their regular season one day later than scheduled because of a power failure on the Aquinas campus on Tuesday.
Alma trailed after one half by a score of 29-14 as both teams struggled from the floor shooting. Each team faired better in the final frame but Aquinas was still able to outscore the Scots by a margin of 48-36 to achieve the final point differential.
The Scots were led in scoring by a trio of players that finished the game with eight points each - Kathryn Bigelow, Meagan Hoblet and Heather Keenan - while Bigelow also led the team with seven rebounds. The undersized Scots were outrebounded in the game by a total of 49-33.
Alma next plays Defiance on Friday evening in the first round of the Hope College Tournament in Holland, MI.
