Scots Pick Up Third Consecutive Win With 69-65 Decision Against Adrian

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College women's basketball team improved to 10-10 on the season and 6-7 in MIAA action with a 69-65 win against visiting Adrian College Wednesday evening.

Alma held a commanding lead by halftime, 39-26, but the Bulldogs ripped into the lead to take the advantage at the 11-minute mark and a battle ensued for the next four minutes before the Scots began distancing themselves again, ultimately winning by four points.

The Scots shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and came out to shoot just 29 percent in the second half, shooting 39 percent for the game. Adrian, however, reversed those numbers shooting 31 percent in the first and upping that number to 51.6 percent in the second half to shoot 41.7 percent for the contest.

Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel) led the Scots with 24 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Megan Hoblet (Cadillac) had a double-double, her third in as many games with 11 points and 10 boards. Heather Keenan (Charlotte) added 16 points to go along with five assists, two steals and four miscues.

One key for the Scots win was their rebounding advantage, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 19-15 on the offensive boards and 21-18 on the defensive boards.

Alma returns to action this Saturday (Feb. 10) when they travel to Olivet College for a 3 p.m. game. The Scots have just three games remaining prior to the MIAA Tournament on Feb. 21.
