ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women's basketball improved to 8-10, 4-7 in the MIAA with a 71-65 victory against visiting Tri-State, winning in Cappaert Gymnasium for the first time since Jan. 2.
Alma and the Thunder battled back and forth early in the first half but the Scots rallied late in the first to gain a 39-26 advantage by halftime.
Despite a scoring advantage in the second half, however, Tri-State could not overcome the 13 point halftime deficit and ultimately fell to the Scots.
Freshman Megan Hoblet (Cadillac) led the Scots with 16 points, a season (and career) high for the first-year player. Her previous high was 14 points, an amount she recorded on two different occasions.
Contributions came in from across the roster as Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel Catholic) added 13 rebounds - 10 defensive - while adding eight points. It is just the third game this season in which Matuzak has been held to under 10 pointsHeather Keenan (Charlotte) added 15 points and Courtney Lusk (Michigan Center) 13 points in the victory, tying a season high for the freshman.
Freshman Kathy Bigelow (Alma) also notched a season high in scoring and rebounding with nine points and five boards.
The Scots hit the road this weekend to face Kalamazoo at 3 p.m.
