Scots Cough Up 18 Point Lead to Let Albion Win 68-55

ALBION, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball program held an 18-point first half lead against Albion College in MIAA action Saturday but squirreled it away by halftime. The Scots lost to the Britons 68-55 to fall to 7-10, 3-7 in MIAA play.

The Scots rallied to lead by as many as 18 points in the first half but Albion came back to cut the Alma lead to just two points before halftime. The Scots saw contributions from Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel) with a trey, Emily Niemi (Skandia/Gwinn) at the charity stripe and Megan Hoblet (Cadillac) in the lane to lead by nine at halftime, 39-30.

A determined Briton squad came out of the half fresh and fighting, cuttin ghte Alma lead to just two points and going on a 7-0 run out of the locker room to make Alma's lead an uncomfortable 39-37. Within five minutes, the Britons had tied things up at 48-48 and extended their lead to eight points before Matuzak a Jessica Babcock foul at the free throw line.

Once Albion secured the lead, they never let it out of their grasp, going on a 20-7 run to close the game.

Alma looks ahead to a Jan. 31 home game when the Scots host Tri-State at 7:30 p.m.
