ANGOLA, Ind. - The Alma College women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing skid with a 68-50 victory against Tri-State tonight. The win improves the Scots' record to 9-9 (4-7 MIAA). Sophomore Ashley Matuzak (Saginaw/Nouvel Catholic) scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Scots with her double-double, the third of the season for Matuzak.
Senior Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) led the Scots with 18 points while Darcie Philp (Ubly) added 14 points and nine boards.
A low-scoring first half - Alma led 24-18 - opened the doors for a 44-point second half for the Scots while Tri-State scored 32.
Alma's post play proved to give them a 14-point advantage, generating 28 points in the paint to the Thunder's 10.
The Scots return to action Saturday (Feb. 4) when it hosts Kalamazoo College at 4 p.m. for Scot Appreciation Day, a celebration for the community and campus.
