ALBION, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team fell to 5-5 (0-3 MIAA) on the season with a 90-82 loss to Albion tonight. Senior Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) dropped 27 points and dished out 11 assists for the double-double, leading the team in the first game of the new year.
Tied at 36 at halftime, Alma saw the Britons' Jaime Fornetti go a perfect 15-of-15 from the line in the second half, going 5-of-6 from the field en route to a career-high 31 points.
Alma's only lead of the second half came as senior Ashley Borcherding (Millington) drained a three-pointer to give the Scots a 39-38 lead with 18 minutes remaining in the game. Despite facing a deficit of as many as 14 points, Alma came back to within four twice in the game's waning minutes.
The Maroon and Cream shot nearly 60 percent from the field, but were uncharacteristically unbalanced from the free throw line, shooting 52 percent.
In addition to Peacock's grand performance, both Darcie Philp (Ubly) and Borcherding scored 18 points.
Alma returns to action Thursday (Jan. 5) when it hosts Tri-State at 7:30 p.m. at Cappaert Gymnasium.
