ALMA, Mich. – The women's basketball team fought back, but fell to the St. Mary's Belles, 68-74. It was the Scots' second home game of the year.
The Scots trailed after the first half, 30-40, but battled back in the second half with stellar defense and great shooting. After allowing the Belles to shoot 53 percent in the first half, the Scots held St. Mary's to only 21 percent shooting from the field in the second half. Alma had seven blocks and two steals as a team. The Scots shot 51 percent from the field for the game and shot 46 percent from behind the three-point line in the second half.
Alma had four scorers in double figures including leading scorer, Erica Philp (Ubly), with 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists, Katey Peacock (Greenville) contributed 16 points and five rebounds, and Ashley Borcherding (Millington) dropped in 12 points and three assists. Erica Philp (Ubly) earned a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Scots return to the court Dec. 16 at 8 p.m. for Scotty's Shootout hosted by Alma.
