The Alma College women's basketball team won the first game of its 2005-06 season with a 72-59 win against the College of Wooster tonight.
Alma was led in scoring by Darcie Philp (Ubly) and Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) who each scored 19 points, respectively. Peacock added six boards while Philp grabbed four of her own. Erica Philp (Ubly) led all rebounders with seven boards. Senior guard Ashley Borcherding (Millington) turned in 13 points, three assists and three steals in a well-rounded performance.
Alma held just a one-point advantage at the half, 33-32, but showed poise in the second half, out-scoring Wooster 39-27.
The Scots now face Seton Hill tomorrow in the championship game of the Nan Nichols Tournament at 3 p.m.
