ALMA, Mich. - Alma College women's basketball lost to Olivet College Saturday night (Jan. 8), 55-51.The game was close for forty minutes as the Comets held on to take the victory. With the win, Olivet improves to 7-6, 2-3 in conference action while the Scots fall to 6-5, 1-4 in MIAA play.   

Alma played scrappy all night to keep the game close as their offense never got going, shooting just 27 percent from the field.  The Maroon and Cream were playing without team leader and spark plug Katey Peacock (Gowen/Greenville) who is out with a dislocated shoulder.  Without Peacock in the line-up, Alma's starting five shot a dismal nine-of-43 from the field.  However, the Scots out-rebounded Olivet by seven and made 82 percent of their free-throws in the contest.

Senior Michelle Dettling (Chelsea) grabbed 14 rebounds for the Scots and scored seven points going 3-of-14 from the field.  Mindy VanDamme (Cornell/Gwinn) scored 11 points in 19 minutes of play and Abigail Way (Fowlerville) added 12 points and six rebounds respectively.

The Scots travel to Holland on Jan. 12 to face conference rival Hope College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
