Dr. Eric Calhoun will enter his 12th season as an Assistant Football Coach at Alma College in the Fall of 2025. Calhoun serves as the Scots' assistant defensive line coach, and is also an assistant professor in the Alma College biology department, where he has worked since 2008. In addition, Calhoun is the faculty athletic mentor for the football program.
Calhoun played collegiately for Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo., from 1992-95 as a defensive lineman. During his career with the Bulldogs, he played in 30 games, recording 78 total tackles, including five sacks. As a senior, Calhoun was a second-team All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association pick and earned MIAA All-Academic honors.
Calhoun graduated with a pair of Bachelor of Science degrees from Truman State University in 1997, majoring in biology and chemistry. He also received his Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, specializing in tumor biology, from The Mayo Clinic Graduate School in 2002. Following graduation from The Mayo Clinic, Calhoun participated in a postdoctoral fellowship at John Hopkins University from 2002-08.
A native of Ankeny, Iowa, Eric resides in Riverdale with his wife Cristy, and has three children, Ryan, Caleb, and Megan.
