ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Alma College track and field team competed at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Invitational on Saturday, April 5th. The Scots saw high level competition from NCAA Division I, II III and NAIA colleges and universities and performed solidly.
On the women's side of the meet, Lauren Brawt claimed a top ten finish in the 400-meter run with a time of1:00.24, good for seventh-place. Jordan Fox finished 13th overall in the 800-meter race with at time of 2:30.94. In the women's 5K, Sophia Dech was Alma's highest finisher with a 15th place finish, running a time of 18:54.47. In hurdles action, Jenna Belmas collected a 12th place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:17.66. Finishing top ten with a ninth-place finish was Sophia Sanford in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with a personal-best time of 12:54.09 on the day. In field events, Helena Snyder, picked up a fifth-place finish in the high jump clearing a mark of 1.55 meters. Brawt collected a sixth-place finish in the long jump, with a mark of 4.90 meters.
Switching to the men's side of action, Aiden Aldrich set a personal best again with a time of 22.70 seconds in the 200-meter race, finishing in ninth-place. One-upping his first performance, Aldrich also claimed a top-five finish in the 400-meter run with another personal-best time of 50.29, finishing in fourth. In the 800-meter race, Will Maginity finished in 15th, running a time of 2:04.61. In hurdles action, Trace Laskey finished eighth overall in the 110-meter hurdles running a time of 16.48 seconds, a personal-best. Jumping to the 400-meter hurdles, Laskey claimed sixth-place with a time of 1:01.77. In field events, Leland Edelyn notched a fifth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing the mark of 3.80 meters. Ed Markarian also finished top ten, though in the long jump with an eighth-place finish with a mark of 6.07 meters. Markarian also finished in sixth in the triple jump, with a mark of 12.01 meters. In the shot put, Richard Semmelroch finished in 11th with a throw of 12.23 meters. Just behind, Nicholas Batista finished in 13th with a throw of 11.31. In the discus, Ryan McGuire finished in 12th with a mark of 36.61 meters for the meet. McGuire collected his highest finish of the day in the hammer throw, with a personal-best mark of 45.80 meters, finishing in sixth. The final two top ten finishes for the Scots came in the javelin throw as Austin Thompson placed sixth with a mark of 43.02 and Markarian finished in eighth with a mark of 41.74 meters.
The track and field team will have a week to prepare for the Bill Bippes Cougar Classic hosted by Spring Arbor University. The meet is set to take place on Saturday, April 12th, with events beginning at 10:00 AM.
