MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Alma College track and field teams returned to the Jack Skoog indoor track at Central Michigan University for the Chippewa Invitational on Saturday, February 8th. The Scots saw some MIAA competition against Albion College along with Cleary University and Central Michigan's women's team.
For the women's competition, Dakota Booher collected a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter race with a personal best time of 27.74. Lauren Brawt finished fourth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:01.01 just ahead of her teammate Olivia Giza who finished fifth with a time of 1:06.67, which is her best time at Alma. Erica Slocum tabbed a second-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:05.11, which is also her personal best in the event. Helena Snyder was Alma's highest finisher in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.17, placing her in third for the event. Kaitelyn Walker finished just one position behind Snyder with a personal record time of 10.71 in the event. For the field events, Snyder finished second in the high jump with a cleared mark of 1.56 meters. Lauren McCarthy and Alisha Isenberg both finished top five in the pole vault with McCarthy clearing 2.91 meters for third and Isenberg clearing 2.16 meters for fourth. Brawt scored a second-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.11 meters.
Switching to the men's side of the meet, Aiden Aldrich opened the Scots up with a third-place finish in the 60-meter race with a time of 7.21, in his first time competing in the event. Benjamin Daniels was able to finish fifth in the same race with a time of 7.35, just off his personal best. The 200-meter race saw the Scots sweep positions two through five as Austin Thompson, Daniels, Phillip Banner and Trace Laskey all ran below 24.27, respectively. The 400-meter race saw Aldrich claim the top honors with a time of 52.25, finishing ahead of his teammate Will Maginity, who ran a 53.46. The Scots also collected another string of second, third and fourth-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles as Laskey led the way with a time of 9.11. Leland Edelyn finished in third with a time of 9.57, while Brady Crake finished third, running a time of 9.94. In the field events, Edelyn set a new personal best in the pole vault with a cleared mark of 3.70 meters. Ed Markarain collected a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 5.83 meters, along with a second-place in the triple jump, with a mark of 12.00 meters. Jerrold Atwell gave the Scots a second-place finish in the shot put, throwing for 13.43 meters. Thompson finished just behind his teammate in fifth with a personal best throw of 12.10 meters. Ryan McGuire finished one spot off the lead in the weight throw as he threw for 13.72 meters. Callen Hagey rounded out the top five with a throw of 12.31 meters.
Alma will be back in action this upcoming weekend as they will travel to Grand Valley State University on Saturday, February 15th. The "Big Meet" will begin at 10:00 AM.
