ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Alma College track and field team traveled west to Grand Valley State University to take part in one of the largest meets in the region on Saturday, February 15th. The Scots faced off against many levels of competition including NCAA Division I, II and III, along with top NAIA schools and NJCAAA as well. Alma saw solid results across the board highlighted by several high finishes.
For the women, Lauren Brawt finished 21st in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.85, less than a second off of her personal best. Brawt also collected a 22nd place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.82 meters. Jordan Fox also finished 21st but in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:23.52, which was a new personal record for her. Alma's highest finisher of the entire day was Helena Snyder who reached a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing a mark of 1.58 meters, only finishing behind a Division II competitor. Lauren McCarthy almost cracked the top ten in the pole vault finishing in 13th place overall, clearing a mark of 2.95 meters.
On the men's side, Aiden Aldrich finished 20th overall in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.86, which is a new personal best and just six hundredths of a second off from the school record. In the field events, Leland Edelyn finished 22nd in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 3.45 meters. Ed Markarian was the men's highest finisher with a 12th place finish in the triple jump, setting a mark of 12.09 meters. Jerrold Atwell collected a 22nd place finish in the shot put, throwing for 13.19 meters on the day. Callen Hagey was able to break the top 20 with a 19th place finish in the weight throw, throwing for a personal best 13.73 meters.
Alma will now have one more chance to perfect their craft before the MIAA Indoor Field at the Saginaw Valley State University Tune-Up, next Friday, February 21st. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.
