MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Alma College track and field teams competed close to home as they traveled to Mount Pleasant for the Chippewa Challenge, hosted by Central Michigan University on Saturday, April 13th. Again, the Scots saw multiple Personal records set as thy tried to take advantage of the sunny but windy day.
In the women's events, Lauren Brawt placed second in the triple jump with a new personal best mark of 10.26 meters, finishing behind a Division I opponent from the University of Detroit Mercy. Brawt also finished second in the long jump with a mark of 5.07 meters, again behind a Division I opponent. Brawt continued her strong showing on the track in the 400-meter race as she clocked in with a time of 1:01.89, finishing in fifth behind all Division I runners. Chloe Colton was another Alma runner who had a solid finish as she placed seventh in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:24.36, Alma's highest finisher. Andrea Taghon collected three top five finishes on the day with her best individual performance coming in the 100-meter hurdles. Taghon finished in fourth with a time of 16.76, while she also competed in the 400-meter hurdles where she placed fifth with a time of 1:11.80. Helena Snyder also ran in the 400 hurdles as she finished with a time of 1:11.88 for sixth place overall. Snyder's best finish for the day came in the high jump as she cleared the mark of 1.50 meters, placing her second in the field. Allison Wichert also recorded a top three finish in a field event as she set a new PR in the triple jump with a mark of 9.52 meters, good for third-place. The 4x400 relay team of Taghon, Wichert, Brawt and Victoria Gotaas rounded out the women's events placing second behind CMU with a time of 4:10.35.
Will Maginity recorded the highest finish on the men's side of action as he placed second in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:02.42, which was a PR for the freshman. Landon Jennings also finished top three as she placed third in the 400-meter run with a time of 51.07. Jacob Campbell collected another high finish for the men as he placed third in the 1500 meters. Campbell ran a time of 4:15.56 in his first time ever competing in the event. In the field events, Austin Thompson finished second in the Javelin as his best mark was 38.99 meters, just a half a meter shy of first-place. Callen Hagey also competed in the event and finished in third behind his teammate with a mark of 37.48. Ed Markarian finished in fourth with a throw of 36.08.
The track and field teams will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 26/27th at the Concordia University-Ann Arbor Alumni Legacy Meet. The meet is set to start at 11:00 AM on Friday and 12:00 PM on Saturday.
