ANGOLA, Ind. – The Alma College track and field teams put their training to the test for the whole conference to see at the MIAA Indoor Field Day Championship on Saturday, February 24th, at Trine University. The Women placed fifth overall as the men placed seventh for the championship.
In the running events on the women's side, Alma had two finishers in the top eight in the 60-meter hurdles as Andrea Taghon ran a 10.05 to place sixth and Helena Snyder ran 10.13 to place eighth in the finals. Lauren Brawt collected a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:02.76, nearly passing her best of 1:02.37. The relay team of Victoria Gotaas, Reagan Keyser, Brawt and Taghon brought home a third-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:17.99 to round out the running events. In the field events on the women's side, Snyder placed in sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.51 meters and Keyser finished right behind her in seventh with a mark of 1.40 meters. Brawt set a new personal record at the championship in the long jump as she cleared her previous best of 5.09 meters with a jump of 5.15 meters, placing her in third for the conference meet. Brawt matched her personal record in the triple jump with a mark of 9.83 meters, placing her in fourth for the event. Snyder also competed in the long jump and placed eighth with a jump of 4.67 meters. Mya Scott collected some team points in the pole vault as she placed seventh recording a mark of 2.90 meters. In the shot put, Liathano Ramirez also set a new personal record with a throw of 11.37 meters, besting her previous mark of 10.97 meters, and placing fourth overall in the event. Ramirez also collected another top five finish and personal record as well in the weight throw as she threw for 13.77 meters and placing fifth overall.
On the men's side of action, the DMR team of Jett Reimers, Will Maginity, Jacob Campbell and Braxton Lamey took fourth place with a time of 11:49.10 in the event. In the field events, Joseph Gonzalez placed tenth in the high jump with a mark of 1.70 meters. Leland Edelyn placed tenth as well in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters, a new personal record for him in just his second time competing in the event. Jerrold Atwell placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 13.04 meters. Freshman Callen Hagey set a new personal record in the weight throw at 12.98 meters, good enough for tenth place overall in the event. Ryan McGuire also set a PR with a throw of 12.47, placing 13th overall. Ed Markarian placed ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.11 meters.
The teams will now look to send some individuals to the last chance meets this upcoming weekend in hopes of earning a spot at the NCAA Indoor track and Field Championship, just two weeks away.
