SAGINAW, Mich. – The Alma College track and field team appeared at the Saginaw Valley State University Tune Up meet on Friday, February 16th. The Scots only had field events compete in the meet but had solid showings, including a top three finish on the all-time lists for the school.
Freshman Lauren Brawt continued her exciting season with her debit in the triple jump where her mark made it to third on the all-time indoor list. In her first time competing in the event, Brawt finished in first at the meet, with her best jump being recorded at 9.83 meters. The mark is now the third best in school history, and about a half of a meter away from the school record. Brawt also competed in the long jump where she placed fourth with a jump of 4.78 meters. Mya Scott competed in the pole vault where she finished in third place and cleared a mark of 2.86 meters. Liathano Ramirez placed fifth in the weight throw as she threw for a mark of 13.59 meters, just two tenths of a meter shy of her personal best.
On the men's side of action, Ed Markarian placed second in the triple jump with his mark of 12.22 meters. Markarian's jump was less than a half of a meter short of his person al best heading into the conference meet next week. Freshman Jerrold Atwell placed tenth overall in the shot put, throwing for 13.51 meters. Atwell's throw was two tenths of a meter shy of his personal best, also preparing for the MIAA Field Day taking place next Saturday.
Alma will now use the next week to prepare for the MIAA Field Day that is to take place on Saturday, February 23rd, at Trine University. The Scots will see how they measure up against conference competition and hope to move up the national rankings to send individuals to the NCAA Championships coming up shortly.
