Track and Field Adds Another All-Time Top Ten Finish

SAGINAW, Mich. – The Alma College track and field teams returned to action after a month off back in Saginaw at the Saginaw Valley State University Classic. The Scots saw one entry into the all-time top ten list, along with other notable performances.

Adding her name on to the all-time list was Liathano Ramirez in the weight throw on a snowy Friday afternoon. Inside the SVSU Fieldhouse, Ramirez threw 12.90 meters, which placed her 13th overall in a field with Division I, II, and NAIA competitors. Ramirez's throw now places her 9th all-time in the weight throw, with a lot of time in the rest of the season to keep climbing and improving.

Staying non the women's side, Lauren Brawt again had a strong showing as she competed in the 400-meter run and placed top 10. The freshman ran a 1:03.70, which was good enough for eighth overall and just six tenths off of what she ran a month ago. Jordan Fox also collected a top ten finish in the 800-meter as she ran a time of 2:38.35, placing her in ninth. Helena Snyder picked up where she left off last month and had a good finish in the high jump this time around. Snyder finished tied for second overall jumping 1.53 meters, a solid mark early in the season. Mya Scott was the highest finisher for the Scots in the pole vault as she was able to finish in sixth with a mark of 2.93.

On the men's side of action, Ed Markarian finished in fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.11 meters. Markarian's jump in his first event of the season is just about a half of a meter off of his personal best with many events ahead to look forward to. Landon Jennings also had a positive showing in the 400-meters. Jennings placed fourth overall in the event, running a time of 51.94, which is over a half a second faster than his time a month ago at the SVSU Holiday Classic. Will Maginity also finished top ten in the 400-meters as he recorded an eighth-place finish with a time of 54.06. an additional top ten finish was Jerrold Atwell, who was competing in his first collegiate event, as he was able to place tenth in the men's shot put. Atwell threw for 12.98 meters in the event and edged out 11th place by .01 of a meter.

Alma will head up 127 next weekend, before heading back to Saginaw in two weeks. The Scots will now prepare for the Jack Skoog Open hosted by Central Michigan University on Saturday, January 20th. Events are slated to begin at 11:00 AM inside the Jack Skoog Indoor Track.
