Women's Volleyball Advances in MIAA Tournament with Road Win at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Alma College volleyball team defeated Trine University in the MIAA Tournament quaterfinals on Tuesday. The five-seeded Scots (4-5) won by a score of 17-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-15, 15-11 in five sets. 

Fresh off being named MIAA Volleyball Player of the Week earlier today, Sara Majerle tied a career-high for kills with 29. Haley Novak had a season-high 49 assists. Bailey Cantrell led the Scots with 24 digs. McKenzie Smith posted 15 kills. Kolbey Boyd tallied 14 digs while Lauren Quinn added 13 digs. 

Alma started off slow by dropping the first set but won some pivotal points in the second frame to things up at 1 a piece. Trine (7-5) ran away with the third set but Alma responded by dominating the fourth set to force a deciding fifth set. 

The Scots started the final set strong and took a commanding lead. Trine looked to make a comeback but Alma finally earned the point needed to win the playoff match. 

Alma will now head to Calvin University for the tournament semifinals on Thursday, April 22nd at 7 p.m.
