Cross Country Has Strong Outing at the Lansing Invitational

Lansing - The Alma College cross country team took part in the Lansing Invitational on Friday (Oct. 4); the men placed third and the women placed tenth.

Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central), Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich. / Oscoda Area), Karl Stroup (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) and Timothy Carlington (Cadillac, Mich. / Cadillac Senior High School) all finished in the top 20 point-getters on the men's side. Reed posted a time of 26:34.1, Montgomery came in at 26:58.1, Stroup in 27:15.9 and Carlington in 27:24.1; each of them were new personal bests. In all, 11 men set new personal records.

Aubrey Hemstreet (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central) placed 13th among 175 women to finish the race. She ran a 19:10.5 5k, one-and-a-half seconds off her college best. Cornelia Gotaas (Alma, Mich. / Alma) was next across the finish line for the Scots with a personal record of 6:45.2. Blaire Showers (Ithaca, Mich. / Ithaca), Haley Trickey (Millington, Mich. / Millington) and Elizabeth Gotaas (Alma, Mich. / Alma) all finished shortly thereafter with Trickey and Gotaas also setting new PRs. Eight women ended the race with a new PRs in total.

Alma has two weeks off before competing at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday, Oct. 19. The meet will begin at 10:30 a.m.
