Lansing, Mich. - The Alma College men's and women's cross country teams ran in the Lansing Invitational on Friday (Oct. 5) at Grant Woods Park in Lansing.
The men's team finished fifth of 21 teams in the 8k race, while the women took 12th place in their 5k. Senior Justin Jones (Cedar Springs, Mich. / Cedar Springs) led the men (26:53.3) and placed 28th overall, and junior Aubrey Hemstreet was the fastest on the women's side (20:08.5).
Hemstreet and Madeline McDonnell (Grosse Point, Mich. / Grosse Point South) both ran the 5k in under 21 minutes, McDonnell finishing 56th (20:51.3). Callie Jones (Mason, Mich. / Mason) and Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) earned points for the Scots with their times of 21:17.3 and 21:22.3.
Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) and Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich. / Oscoda Area) finished within three seconds of each other, in 35th (27:04.7) and 37th (27:07.3). Karl Stroup (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) and Nathan Idalski (Gaylord, Mich. / Johannesburg-Lewiston) also ran the race in under 28 minutes.

"We had two good weeks of practice leading up to this meet and went into it with the goals of being more aggressive at the start and tightening up our pack. We coaches felt both groups handled it very well and are embracing the challenges we give them each meet. We are definitely looking forward to next Saturday at Oberlin." -Head Coach Matt Chovanec
