Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College men's and women's cross country team ran in the Raider Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 22), hosted by Grand Rapids Community College.
Both the men and the women finished in eighth place, the men running an 8k and the women a 5k. Junior Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich. / Benzie Central) earned the best time for the men's team (25:38.3), while senior Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) led the women side, finishing her race in 19:29.7.
- In addition to Munderloh, junior Aubrey Hemstreet finished the race in under 19 minutes, taking 40th place (19:46.3). Blair Showers (Ithaca, Mich. / Ithaca) and Callie Jones (Mason, Mich. / Mason) finished the race with times of 20:10.5 and 20:56.8, respectively. Rounding out the top five Alma runners for the women was Haley Trickey (Millington, Mich. / Millington) in 73rd place overall.
- Senior Justin Jones (Cedar Springs, Mich. / Cedar Springs) also finished within the top 50 male runners, placing 47th with a time of 25:55.1. Freshmen Karl Stroup (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) and Nathan Idalski finished the race within three seconds of each other, with times of 26:16.3 and 26:19.5.
- In 66th place, sophomore Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich. / Oscoda Area) crossed the finish line at 26:33.1. All of the Alma men's top six fastest runners today finished the race in under 27 minutes.

"We liked what we saw today. The past two weeks of practice showed we were capable of a good performance here. As tough as this meet was, we are taking steps in the right direction. Like I told both teams afterward, we need to trust the process and continue to not be tentative during certain parts of the race. Everything will come together when it counts if we continue to keep learning from our races."

The Scots will participate in the Lansing Invitational hosted by Lansing Community College on Friday, October 5. The race will start at 1:30 p.m. at Grant Woods Park.
