Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College men's and women's cross country teams finished in 20th of 25 teams at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday, September 8 in their second meet of the season.
Aubrey Hemstreet led the women's team, finishing in 20:25.1 for 90th place, while Justin Jones (Cedar Springs, Mich./Cedar Springs) finished in 27:17.5, leading the Scots again this week and taking 83rd place overall.
- In the men's race, Jones, Luke Reed (Benzonia, Mich./Benzie Central), and Karl Stroup (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland) were the top three for the Scots. Reed took 104th with a time of 27:37.6, while Stroup finished in 28:09.1 and took 115th.
- Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) and Blaire Showers (Ithaca, Mich./Ithaca) rounded out the top three fastest for the women, with Munderloh taking 97th with her time of 20:33.4, and Showers earning points for the Scots with her 104th-place time of 20:46.4.
- Elizabeth Gotaas, Madeliene McDonnell (Grosse Point, Mich./Grosse Point South), and Haley Trickey all finished within 5 seconds of each other, running the 5K race in under 22 minutes.

"This was a very tough meet team-wise on both sides. Running in an early season meet like this teaches us how to compete better as we go forward in the season. If you take into account how we ran last week at CMU, we made some good progress over the week. We just need to continue trusting the process so that we are well prepared for the championship phase of our season in late October/Early November."
