Majerle Tallies 500th Kill in Win Over Elmhurst

Greencastle, Ind. - The Alma College volleyball team went 1-1 in action at the DePauw University Tiger Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 14) afternoon, defeating Elmhurst College (IL) 3-1 and falling to host DePauw University (IN) 3-0. The Scots are now 8-4 on the year.

Sophomore Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) tallied 25 kills against the Bluejays, giving her exactly 500 in her career. She was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging over 15 kills in Alma's four matches.

The Scots defeated Elmhurst College (IL) 3-1 in a very even contest. Each of the Scots' three wins were decided by two points; their one loss was by three points. Alma had 20 kills in the first set and no fewer than 13 in any set.

Majerle added a team-high 22 digs to her 25 kills. Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) notched 51 assists, two off of her career-high. Haley Ullrich (Elk River, Minn. / Elk River) posted 14 kills and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott County) added 11 with 17 digs.

Alma didn't fare as well in the second game; they totaled a season-low 26 kills and fell to DePauw in straight sets. Majerle led the squad with eight kills and Miller added seven.

The Scots have a week off before hosting Hope College on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
