Alma, Mich. - Alex Leja has announced her resignation as the head coach of the Alma College volleyball program, Director of Athletics Steven Rackley announced Tuesday (Nov. 20).
"Alex has given us three great years as head coach," said Steven Rackley, Director of Athletics. "I am very grateful for the time she spent here and the work she put into the volleyball program. She has a bright future in this business."
"I want to thank Steven Rackley for giving me the opportunity to lead this program, and everyone in the athletic department for the continuous support in my time here at Alma," said Leja. "Alma College is a special place with wonderful people, and I am grateful for all of what I have experienced here."
Leja joined the Scots in 2016 from Vanguard University, her alma mater. During her three years as head coach, she has accumulated a record of 40-38 and has taken the team from a 13-14 record in her first year to 19-8 this year, the program's best record since 2008. Alma finished in third place in the conference, its highest finish since 2012, and reached the MIAA postseason for the first time in four years.
Leja coached four All-Conference players in her tenure, most recently Katie Bush (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell), Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) and Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford). Alma's three All-MIAA players this season were the most by the program since the 2005 season.
A search for Leja's replacement will begin immediately.
