Franklin, Ind. – The Alma College volleyball team won over both Anderson University and Franklin College Saturday (Oct. 13) by scores of 3-0. The Scots had a massive offensive performance against Anderson with a season-high for hitting percentage of .506.
Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) led the way in points (35) and kills (28) and a .619 hitting percentage. Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) had combined 68 assists and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott County) had 21 digs on the day.
The Scots improve to 17-2 with the wins. It is the most wins for the program since 2011.
Alma won the first set against Anderson wire-to-wire as they did not trail they entire way. With the score at 14-10, the Scots went on a 11-4 run to close out the set. The Scots had their most kills in one set in the first with 17. Novak had 15 assists in the opening frame. The Scots kept up their spectacular play in the second with 11 kills and zero assists. Alma had an impressive .713 hitting percentage in the second set. They finished off the match with 16 kills and only one error in the final frame.
The match against the host team was more competitive. Alma trailed for portions of each set but overcame Franklin with runs of 8-4 in the first, 3-1 in the second and 8-4 in the third to win each set.
- Alma set a season-low for errors in Anderson match with eight.
- Majerle had a career-high .619 hitting percentage against Anderson.
- The Scots had three players in double-figures for digs against Franklin with Novak and Majerle each having 12 and Brooke Mason (Marshall, Mich. / Marshall) having 10.
- Alma now has now won seven in a row and 13 of their last 14.
Alma returns home Tuesday (Oct. 16) to face conference opponent Olivet for Senior Night. The match will start at 6:30 p.m.
