Scots Tripped Up in Straight Sets at Adrian

Adrian, Mich. - The Alma College women's volleyball team fell to Adrian College 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 24-26) on Friday evening. The Scots (6-5, 2-4 MIAA) recorded 39 kills in the match and were led by Madison Smith (Westphalia, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) who had nine and Sasha Laykova (Ternopil, Ukraine/Forest Hills Northern) who had eight. Smith also led the team in hit percentage at .333-percent and Laykova did so in digs with 17. Dakota Pelach (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) and Maressa Miller (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) both led with 17 assists.

The Scots started off well, leading 18-13 in the first set. However, Adrian (8-5, 4-1 MIAA) picked up seven of the next eight points to take control of the set and eventually win 25-22. Alma continued to struggle in the second set and fell 25-12.

The third set was much tighter - there were 12 ties and five lead changes as the biggest lead throughout the set was four for Adrian. The Scots found themselves down one point multiple times in the middle of the set, but they stayed on the attack until they tied it at 24. The Bulldogs then came up with two consecutive kills to end the match.

Alma returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it hosts No. 1 Calvin College at Art Smith Arena at 1:00 p.m.
