Scots Volleyball defeats Albion 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-18) on Friday evening at Art Smith Arena

On Friday evening, the Scots' Volleyball team hosted MIAA foe Albion College and defeated the visitors 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-18) at Art Smith Arena. The win improved Alma to 8-7 in the league and 15-12 overall and moved the team one step closer to a berth in the MIAA Tournament. The team concludes regular season action on Saturday afternoon at Adrian College. With the loss, the Britons left town with a mark of 2-23 in 2012 and 0-15 in the league.

It was Senior Night 2012 for four student athletes playing in their last home match for the Scots - DS/L Shelby Alexander (Higgins Lake, Mich./Roscommon), DS/L/S Megan Ballantyne (Allen Park, Mich./Southgate Anderson), OH/RS Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, Mich./Niles) and S Kelsee Miles (Hanover, Mich./Hanover-Horton).

Each of the four played extensively and they made the most of it, taking contol early and defeating the Britons in three sets. Albion played hard and made the Scots work for it, but the home team was never in serious danger of losing any of the sets.

"It was a very satisfying to win on Senior Night, especially having each of them contribute greatly in the win," said Alma Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "We did what we had to do tonight and now we face a must win match tomorrow at Adrian. If we win we are in the tournament and if we lose, our season is done. It doesn't get much clearer than that and it should be a fun environment for everyone."

Miles paced the Scots with a solid performance that resulted in 30 assists, while Ballantyne and Bourbonnais led the team with 17 and 15 digs respectively. Alexander was next for Alma with eight digs in the victory and Jr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) had a team-high 14 kills.

Tomorrow's match against the Bulldogs in Adrian is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. and if the Scots win and advance to the MIAA Tournament, it will begin next Friday evening at Calvin College.
