Freeland, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced on Monday (Sept. 30) that Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) has been named the conference's Athlete of the Week in women's tennis. The junior was a key factor in the Scots victory over Albion on Saturday (Sept. 27).
Butterfield earned a singles victory over Albion's Saige Jost. After dropping the first set 6-7, Butterfield was able to win the next set 6-2. In the deciding tiebreaker Butterfield won easily 10-1. In doubles competition, Butterfield teamed with sophomore Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove South) and earned an 8-1 victory.
Up next for the Scots and Butterfield is a home match against Defiance College on Saturday (Oct. 5) beginning at noon at the Superior Street Tennis Courts.
