Women's Tennis Rolls Past Concordia Ann Arbor

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team earned a victory in dominant fashion on Saturday (Sept. 14) over the Cardinals of Concordia University Ann Arbor. The Scots earned victories in all but one singles match on the day. 

For the Scots, four women earned straight-set wins. Sophomore Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill. Downers Grove) defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-3. Senior Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge) also earned a solid victory 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Amanda Szymborski defeated her Concordia Ann Arbor opponent 6-1, 6-3, while sophomore Rachel Moran won her match 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, the Scots won all three matches. Davenport and junior Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. Portland) earned a victory 8-5. Szymborski and junior Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich. Rockford) defeated their opponents 8-1. Garibay and sophomore Emily McDonald (Wheeler, Mich. / Bullock Creek) earned the third doubles victory of the day for the Scots, winning 8-3.

The Scots will be back in action next weekend at Cornerstone University on Saturday (Sept. 21). The match is set to begin at 10:00 am from Grand Rapids, Mich.
