Women's tennis defeats Manchester to stop four-match slide

Warsaw, Ind. - The Alma College women's tennis team split its matches on Sunday (Feb. 25), dropping a time-shortened match with the University of St. Francis (IN) by a 4-2 margin before posting a 6-3 win over Manchester University (IN).

With the win over the Spartans, the Scots (2-5 overall) snapped a four-match slide.

How It Happened

  • In the match at St. Francis, the Cougars took a 2-1 lead in doubles, with the No. 1 doubles team of Brooke Butterfield and Matilda Ennis posting a 9-8 win.
  • Butterfield followed her doubles performance with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles to capture Alma's second point. The Cougars won matches at No. 2 and No. 4 singles before the match was called due to time constraints.
  • Against Manchester, Alma took a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to a pair of forfeits. The Spartans forfeit their matches at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, while Matilda Ennis posted a 10-3 win in a match tiebreaker at No. 3 singles to cement the win.
