Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team staved off Calvin University in a 2-1 victory on Wednesday (Oct. 23). The program recognized its two-member senior class, Taylor LeMasters (Minnetrista, Minn. / Waconia) and Emma Vrooman (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Farmington Hills Harrison), after the game.
The Scots improve to 9-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the MIAA with two conference games remaining. Calvin falls to 1-3-2 in the conference and is currently the sixth seed.
Kayleigh Reilly (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant High School) scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute. She sent the ball from the end line to the front of the net and it rolled past the goal line for her third goal of the year. Peyton Erndteman (Norton Shores, Mich. / Mona Shores) extended Alma's lead in the 17th minute when she scored off a rebound from a shot by Lily Stephan (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt High School).
Calvin got on the board in the 84th minute when Kayla Beebe found Emma Thompson at the near post. It was one of three shots on goal by the Knights in the second half, two of which were stopped by Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant).
Calvin outshot Alma 13-10 overall, though both teams had four shots on goal. Erndteman led the Scots with three. Dakota Booher picked up her first yellow card of the year in the 88th minute.
Alma ends the regular season with two road games. It will travel to Kalamazoo on Saturday (Oct. 26) for a game at noon before finishing at Hope on Tuesday (Oct. 29).
