Alma, Mich. - Peyton Erndteman (Norton Shores, Mich. / Mona Shores) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to push the Alma College women's soccer team past Olivet College 2-1 on Tuesday (Oct. 15). The Scots improve to 7-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA; Olivet falls to 4-5-2 and 0-2-2. The game was delayed at the start due to lightning.
Erndteman scored in the 97th minute. Makenzie Rajewski (Midland, Mich. / Midland) first got a shot off but the wet turf kept it from crossing the goal line. Erndteman nudged it the rest of the way to cure the win.
The game's other two goals were scored by way of penalty kick. Olivet's Chelsie Smith scored in the 38th minute after Ashley Oldham (Gilbert, Ariz. / Chandler Basha) fouled Mary Mitchell in the box. Paige Moore (St. Johns, Mich. / St. Johns High School) converted her own opportunity in the 58th minute when she was fouled by Morgan Hopkins.
Alma had twice as many shots as Olivet – 20-10. The Comets committed 15 fouls to Alma's seven.
Alma returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 4:00 p.m. when it hosts Calvin University.
