Quick Burst Leads Scots Past Franklin

Franklin, Ind. - The Alma College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Franklin College (IN) on Sunday (Sept. 15) afternoon.

Lexi Russell (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston High School) and Ashley Oldham (Gilbert, Ariz. / Chandler Basha) each tallied goals for the Scots (3-2-1) and they came in quick succession. Russell headed in a second ball off a corner kick for her fourth goal of the year in the 48th minute. Peyton Erndteman (Norton Shores, Mich. / Mona Shores) drew a foul seconds after Franklin had put the ball back in play to lead to the next goal. Taylor LeMasters (Minnetrista, Minn. / Waconia) dropped the free kick right in the box, allowing Oldham to get her head on it and put it past Grizzly goalkeeper Lexi Short.

The game got chippy in the final 20 minutes. Two players from each team were given yellow cards: Oldham and Jackie Jarvis (Fowlerville, Mich. / Fowlerville High School) for Alma and Taylor McDaniel and Lilly Haines for Franklin. In all, 20 fouls were called in the game, 12 of which were on the Scots.

Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) and Nicole Tuzinowski (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) each played a half in goal. Wentworth made one save while Tuzinowski made three.

Alma returns to Scotland Yard on Saturday (Sept. 21) when it hosts Concordia University of Chicago at 11:00 a.m. on Alma's Homecoming Day.
