Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team fell to Olivet College 2-1 on Saturday (Oct. 7) in the annual Kick it to Cancer game at Scotland Yard. The visiting Comets completed the season sweep of the Scots with the win. In the first meeting between the two schools on September 9, Olivet posted a 4-1 victory.

The Comets took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break thanks to MIAA scoring leader Isabelle Leon. The Comets would score their second goal in the 48th minute before senior Amanda Mladenovski (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) scored off a free kick in the 53rd minute.

Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) finished the day with four saves.

How It Happened

  • Olivet's Isabelle Leon struck first in the 25th minute by single-handedly taking control of the offense, weaving her way in for the score.
  • Olivet's Maya Prewitt gave the Comets a 2-0 advantage in the 48th minute, as her shot deflected off of an Alma defender and found the back of the net.
  • In the 53rd minute, Amanda Mladenovski sent a shot from beyond the midfield line into the back of the net, after deflecting off a defender.

  • Mladenovski takes the lead for goals scored, breaking the tie she held with fellow senior Janelle Christensen (Allendale, Mich./Allendale) entering Saturday's contest. She now has a career-high five this season.
