Women's soccer shut out at Adrian

Adrian, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team opened the second half of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule on Wednesday (Oct. 4) night, falling at Adrian College by a 3-0 margin.

Mya Oleksiak had two goals for the host Bulldogs (8-4-1 overall, 5-3-1 MIAA), scoring in the seventh and 20th minutes to give Adrian a 2-0 lead at the half. Adrian added another goal in the 67th minute to sweep the season series against the Scots for the first time since the 2011 campaign. 

Senior Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) made three saves for the Scots (2-7-2, 2-7-0 MIAA) in the first half, while freshman Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) played the entire second half in goal, making two stops.

How It Happened

  • Adrian struck first in the seventh minute when the Bulldogs capitalized on a turnover deep in the Scots' end of the field. Mya Oleksiak netted the goal, hitting the top corner of the net from just inside the right side of the box.
  • Oleksiak scored again in the 20th minute to give Adrian a 2-0 lead on a goal from right in front of the net. Oleksiak was set up by a crossing pass from Mackenzie Wilcox that found her right in front of the goal crease. 
  • Kirsten Chambers made the score 3-0 in the 67th minute, scoring on a high-arcing shot from the top of the box.

Alma will return to Scotland Yard on Saturday, Oct. 7, to host Olivet College in the Scots' annual Kick it to Cancer Game. Alma will wear special pink jerseys during the game to raise awareness for the various forms of cancer that have affected friends and family of the team and coaching staff. Campus organizations involved in cancer awareness will also be on hand at Scotland Yard. The match is slated for a Noon start.
