Women's soccer stopped late by Adrian

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback at the hands of Adrian College on Wednesday (Sept. 6) afternoon in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener for both teams at Scotland Yard.

The Bulldogs (2-1-0 overall, 1-0-0 MIAA) scored in the 85th minute to break a 1-1 tie and kept pressure on the Scots all afternoon, outshooting Alma (0-1-2, 0-1-0 MIAA) by a 20-5 margin and attempting 11 corner kicks to the Scots' two.

Senior Whitnee Foote (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Mt. Pleasant) had the goal for the Scots, scoring in the 65th minute by sending the ball in off the crossbar.

What Happened

  • Foote scored her first goal of the year in the 65th minute, sending in a shot off the crossbar and in. The shot was set up off a shot from Amanda Mladenovski (Shelby Township, Mich./Henry Ford II) that was initially saved by Adrian keeper Ayverie Giller.
  • Adrian scored the next two goals, tying the contest in the 70th minute when Caroline Fleming knocked the ball in after Clair Baghera caromed a ball off the crossbar.
  • Baghera scored the game-winning goal directly off a corner kick.
  • Senior goalkeeper Kelsey Postema (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) made six saves. 

What's Next?

The Scots will travel to Olivet, Mich., on Saturday, Sept. 9, to face the Olivet College Comets. First touch is scheduled for noon at the Olivet College soccer field.
